Here’s a bit about Janet!
How long have you been volunteering at Forward Stride and why did you start?
I have been volunteering here for about a year. I didn’t even know Forward Stride existed until I was searching for something else on the internet and it just popped up in my search results. A therapeutic equine riding facility 10 minutes from my house? Huh? They have volunteer opportunities? Huh? Either Google has a great search engine or it was divine intervention. I choose to believe the latter! This facility is a blessing to all.
Who is your favorite horse?
All the horses here at Forward Stride are very special. My latest love is sweet Pico! He reminds of a new kid on the playground wanting to play with the big boys.
Do you have a hobby you love to spend time on?
Now that spring is finally here, I love to work in the yard. The garden goes from bare and lifeless to abundant new growth and beautiful flowers! My husband and I also make regular “contributions” to the local Indian casino.
What is one piece of advice you would give a new volunteer?
What so amazed me about Forward Stride is how organized and clean everything is. Everything has a place and is clearly labeled to avoid confusion and misplaced items. It must be like herding cats to get everyone on the same page but they do it! What really helps me keep up with any changes is the email sent the night before my shift. It has a ton of good, updated information on what is happening with the herd.
