Donating Stock, Bonds, and Securities
If you’re looking for a way to help Forward Stride, while also achieving specific tax benefits, donating stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds might be right for you. Our staff is happy to help you with any transaction.
Stocks that have appreciated in value can be subject to capital gains tax when sold; however, by transferring your appreciated shares of stock directly to Forward Stride (rather than selling them and remitting the proceeds to Forward Stride), you can avoid all capital gains and resulting taxes. Plus, the IRS allows you to claim, on your itemized Federal income taxes, the full fair market value of the shares (calculated as the average of the high and low prices on the day Forward Stride receives the shares as a charitable gift).

DOUBLE YOUR GIFT OF TIME OR MONEY!
If you work for, or are retired from, one of the many community-minded companies that match employee donations to nonprofit organizations, your contribution to Forward Stride could be twice as valuable. Your employer will match your gift dollar for dollar — and some companies even double the amount of your gift — at no cost to you!
Additionally, some companies will pay for your volunteer time in the form of a donation to Forward Stride.

Sponsor An Equine
The annual cost of feed, shavings, horse shoes, veterinary care, standard care and training for horses adds up quickly. Happy and healthy horses and donkeys are key to our success and that of our participants. Your support will enable Forward Stride to continue providing high quality care for our herd, while keeping the cost of lessons and therapy as low as possible for our clients.
We invite you to partner with Forward Stride to maintain the health of our amazing therapy herd through sponsoring a Forward Stride horse or donkey. Sponsorships are available to individuals, companies, clubs, or any other organization.
Donate A Horse
Forward Stride accepts horse donations. If you have a horse you think would work well in one of our programs, please fill out the questionnaire below. Your answers will help us identify if your horse or pony would be a good fit for one or more of our programs.
Donate Tack and Apparel
We accept all kinds of tack and riding apparel. We are especially interested in:
- Driving equipment including various harness sizes, various carriage vehicle styles and sizes, whips, whip holders, rainbow reins, driving gloves, and a storage shed.

Any tack we are unable to use will be sold at our annual tack sale or at the Canby Tack Sale and proceeds will go to our general operations. All donations are appreciated!

Thank you for considering us for your tack or apparel donation!
We are a registered non-profit so donations to us are tax-deductible. Be sure to fill out a donation form when you drop off!
Does my car have to be running to qualify for donation?
No, but the car must have an engine and be towable. However, cars that are in extremely poor condition or far from our tow range may cost more to tow than the value of the vehicle. If this is the case, Forward Stride may not receive any dollars from your vehicle.
What paperwork do I need?
Forward Stride may accept your vehicle for donation if the title is clear of all liens, your name is on the front of the title and you have signed where indicated to release your interest in the vehicle. If the title is not available, you’ll need to submit an Application for Replacement Title with the DMV and contact us when you have the replacement title. The vehicle’s registration card and keys should also be given to our representative.
Do I get a receipt for my donation?
Yes, our driver will issue a receipt at the time of pick-up. This is not your final tax receipt. The initial acknowledgement will indicate your name and the year, make and model of the vehicle you are donating.
A final acknowledgement will be mailed to you within 30 days of the sale. The amount of gross proceeds received from your vehicle will be listed on this receipt. This will be your receipt for your charitable contribution.
What can I claim as a deduction?
Due to recent IRS updates to the rules regarding vehicle donations and the amount of the deduction that can be claimed, we recommend that you refer to IRS Publication 4303 “A Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations,” which can be found at www.irs.gov, or contact your tax advisor to determine the amount of your tax deduction.
What does Forward Stride do with the donated vehicles?
The vehicles are sold at auction. The funds from vehicle donations are used to produce quality educational and entertainment programs and support our outreach efforts in the community.
Do I have to be with the vehicle at the time of pick-up?
No. Special arrangements can be made when you talk with the tow company.
How much money will Forward Stride receive?
It varies. However, after towing and administrative costs the station will receive the remainder of the proceeds from the sale of the car.
