This Valentine’s Week, we’re celebrating the incredible horses at Forward Stride who bring joy, healing, and strength to our community. But horses need love too!
We’re highlighting our herd and sharing why each of them is so special. Meet Fleur—one of our incredible equine partners who is looking for a Valentine (that’s you!).

What do I love about Fleur? Where do I even begin! I love that when riding her, I reach down to scratch her neck, she instantly lowers her head and you can just feel any tension roll off of her. I love that she takes every opportunity to lay in mud and cover herself from ear to hoof because it means she had a good roll and needs an extra long grooming session. I love that she has a heart of gold and is very eager to find the “yes” moment when she is working. For me personally, following the retirement of my pony, Freckles, Fleur has reminded me why I love riding and of the bond a horse and rider can have.
Fleur helps riders, including myself, build confidence in their skills both in hand and under saddle. She is a herd member who adjusts to the needs and abilities of her riders. As I started back riding following a knee surgery, Fleur always met me where I was at each ride. If I felt like all I could tolerate on that particular ride was a walk around the arena or trails, she was happy to do so. If I felt up from some trotting and cantering, she was also a very willing participant. Fleur’s ability to decipher what her rider needs from her on that particular day makes her an integral part of the Forward Stride herd!
