Here’s a bit about Elizabeth!
How long have you been volunteering at Forward Stride and why did you start?
I began volunteering at Forward Stride in September ‘25. After equine therapy volunteering with International Volunteers HQ (IVHQ) in Rome (‘22) and Porto (‘25), I sought out an established local barn with active volunteers and found the treasure that is Forward Stride.
Who is your favorite horse?
There are many beautiful, unique and charming horses at the barn but I’ve honed in on Maggie and Kip lately. I work with them frequently doing tack help. Kip won for the pic because of his calm demeanor and cooperative nature.
Do you have a hobby you love to spend time on?
I’m an avid landscaper and created an Asian garden in the backyard (now 12 years mature) and a more Western garden on my front hill more recently. I am certified to sail big boats with American Sailing Association (ASA, San Juan Sailing, ‘23) and own a small Catalina Capri 22 sailboat.
What is one piece of advice you would give a new volunteer?
Try different volunteer positions (tack help, vaulting, horse care, etc). Each has its appeal and learning opportunities. Ask when unsure; there’s vast knowledge among the staff and volunteers. Know you’ve landed at the best facility of its kind.
