Here’s a bit about Robyn!
How long have you been volunteering at Forward Stride and why did you start?
I have been volunteering for about 1 1/2 years.
I had volunteered at the other location in Beaverton for a little while, then I had to leave because of work but I always wanted to come back. Then I joined a workshop & I knew that now was a good time to start volunteering again. I love being around the horses & the community.
Who is your favorite horse?
My favorite horse is KJ. I have gotten to know KJ from my EAP [mental health] sessions with him. I think he is a lot like me. He can be shy & standoffish or aloof but still wants to be a part of the activity or around his herd or people. I feel the same way a lot of the time.
Do you have a hobby you love to spend time on?
I have a couple of hobbies. My favorite hobby is reading. I can’t get enough of books. If it’s a good book I will try to read until I finish it. Which happens a lot! I also love coming here to help with horsecare. It makes me feel good when I help out.
What is one piece of advice you would give a new volunteer?
My advice to a new volunteer is to ask questions. You can ask anyone. Everyone is more than happy to answer them & if they don’t know the answer they will help find someone who does.
